Full Strawberry Moon - June 2021

Delectable and delicious! Rob made this strawberry shortcake and we enjoyed it earlier in the month on a cards night with Liz and Darcy.

Then the Epitourists met for lunch and Kaarina made a scrumptious strawberry shortcake for dessert... how lucky can I get?!

The full strawberry moon reaches peak illumination June 24 at 2:40 pm.

Found this online calculator to forecast moonrise; Toronto will see the full moon rise at 9:28 pm in a darkening sky.

Yondering

Launch this year was May 29. Being on the Board, we were struggling as the Covid stay-at-home order was still in effect with regulations preventing outdoor activities keeping golf courses, yacht clubs and tennis courts closed.

We waited as long as we could and were just about to announce the launch delay when the province allowed outdoor activities. Hurray! Now al we can fret about low water levels and the silting of the gap.

Shake down sail on June 19 and all is well. Getting excited for the summer cruises to begin!

Griskit

Such a pretty kitty! She's my garden cat.

Griskit doesn't have a huge territory and stays mostly close to home, so we're not entirely sure where she is picking up the sap that leaves her fur so matted. The constant pulling makes her understandably cranky.

Previously we've taken her to the vet where they knock her out and she's been traumatized for a week.

Thankfully we found a good local groomer to give her a lion cut, no general anaesthetic required.

Book Club picks

A quick virtual AGM to pick our books for the year. Last year was also virtual. It has been so long since we've been together in person!

Still hoping for a get together in October at Nicki's where we can continue the tradition of a weekend away to enjoy each other's company.

In the meantime I have ordered all the books through the library and blocked the time in my calendar.

Looking forward to a year of good reads and conversation:

Sept:    Ice Walker by James Raffan (Nicolette)

Oct     Pull of the Stars by Emma Donahue (Nicki)

Nov    Finding the Mother Tree by Suzanne Samard (Virginia)

Dec     Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall (Miriam)

Feb     Ragged Company by Richard Wagonese (Sheila)

Mar     Coconut Dreams by Derek Mascarenthaus (Deborah)

April    A Gentleman in Moscow (Liz)

May    How To Pronounce Knife by Souvankham Thammavongsa (Diane)

June    Adult Onset by Anne Marie MacDonald (Louise's pick for AGM)
